Antoninianus (3.78g, 20.00mm) Siscia Mint Struck: 280 AD
Description

Probus Siscia PAX AVG

Obverse: IMP C PROBVS P F AVG
Reverse: PA - X A - VG
Emission: 7
Officina: 4
Bust type: B = Radiate, cuirassed bust right

Literature: RIC 706var (unlisted Q on the left side) ; Alfoldi (unlisted!)
Rarity: R3

Note: A very rare variant with the "Q" officina mark (4 officina mark) in the left field instead of the usual right field. This coin is most likely a strike from a coin with a high silver content belonging to one of the emperors from the mid-3rd century AD. The coin is authentic, but has been resilvered and the edges rounded, as was the practice of early collectors in the 18th and 19th centuries.
