Note: This coin is part of the famous Aeqviti coded series (the "A" in the series, i.e., RAA, which is the first letter of the word AEQVITI minted by the first mint, i.e., mint "A"; Rome used Greek letters to denote the numbering of individual mints), first discovered and published by Alexander Missong in the article "Gleichartig systemisirte Münzreihen unter Kaiser Probus," Numismatics Zeitschrift (1873).
In the Roman mint during Probus's time, there were seven mints; each minted a different reverse with a different letter of the seven-letter code AEQVITI in the series; putting all seven coins together yields the code AEQVITI. The letter "R" in the series denotes the mint in Rome; the last letter in the series denotes the mint's number (Greek numerals), and the letter in the middle is the code letter: RAA; REB; RQΓ; RVΔ; RIE; RTζ; RIZ
