Description

BOEOTIA, Thebes. Circa 229-200 BC. Æ (12mm, 1.27 g, 10h). Boeotian shield; club vertically along center line / Nike standing left, holding phiale and trident. BCD Boiotia 585 (this coin); HGC 4, 1396 (this coin). Dark green patina. VF. Extremely rare, one of approximately five known (three others in CoinArchives, and one in Berlin).

BOIOTIA, Federal Coinage. 220's BC. Æ (4.59 g, 12h). Head of Demeter or Kore (Persephone) three-quarter face right, wearing corn-wreath / Poseidon, naked, standing left, resting right foot on rock and leaning on trident; to right, [B]OIWTWN downward. Head, Boeotia p. 86, pl. VI, 6 = BMC p. 41, 81, pl. VI, 8; SNG Cop. 384. VF, medium brown patina. Overstruck on Æ of Antigonos Gonatas of the type SNG Cop. 1214-1221. ($100)

The profile of Herakles shows under the facing head of Demeter and on the reverse the forward part of the horse and the monogram of the Macedonian piece are also visible.
