Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left on throne decorated with Nikai; in left field, Athena Nikephoros standing left; OΛY below throne. Newell –; Price 696; Noe, Sicyon 39 var. (A78/P– [unlisted rev. die]). Toned, weakly struck, some granularity on obverse, minor die shift on reverse. Near VF.

Struck circa 171/0 BC. Head of Helios facing slightly right / Rose with bud to left; ΣTΑΣIΩN above, grape bunch to right. Ashton, Pseudo 35 (A7/P28); SNG Klagenfurt 2926 (same dies). Faintly toned, minor flan flaws, struck with worn dies, small scratch on reverse. Good VF.

Islands off Thrace, Thasos. Circa 412-404 BC. AR Tritartemorion (9 mm. 0,36 g). Bald and bearded head of satyr to right. Rev. ΘΑΣ Two dolphins, one above the other, swimming left and right; all within shallow incuse. HGC 6, 340. Le Rider, Thasiennes 12. SNG Cop 1033-1034. Lightly toned, good very fine. With a lovely classical portrait of the satyr incredibly well centered giving a closer look (comparing to the staters or drachms where the satyr holdyng the protesting nymph) to the portrait from the classical period.

Cyclades, Seriphos or Uncertain Aegean Island. AR Hemiobol, 0.37 g 8.88 mm. Circa 5th Century BC.
Obv:Frog seen from above.
Rev: Quadripartite incuse square
Ref: The ‘frog staters’ of Seriphos seem wonderfully matched to the silent frogs of the island mentioned by Theophrastus (fr. 186), aelian (3.37) and pliny (NH 8.227). Our obol may be a sub-unit of this series or perhaps an extremely rare and uncertain second example attributed to the Aegean Islands (cf. Wroth, W. 1898. Greek Coins Acquired by the British Museum in 1897, NC 18, p. 121).
